Cloud servers

A cloud server is a complete virtual machine. You manage the operating system, packages, firewall and processes, with root access. If you only want to deploy an application without maintaining an operating system, PaaS is the simpler choice.

Before creating a server

Choose a location close to your users and dependencies;
Choose an operating system your team supports;
Prefer SSH keys to passwords for sign-in;
Set a valid, recognizable hostname;
Plan backups and recovery from the start.

Select a location and operating system

Only locations with available capacity and compatible images are shown. Note the image’s default username on the creation or details page.

Select a saved SSH key or provide a new public key. If the location supports passwords, you can use a secure password; never enter your private key in the dashboard.

Create the server

After provisioning completes, obtain the public IP and status from the details page. Wait for running status before connecting.

Apply initial security settings

Update packages, create a non-root administrative user, restrict SSH and the firewall, and configure time and monitoring.

Prepare recovery

Enable backups or create a snapshot, and test restoration with noncritical data.

Rebuild and Delete are destructive. Before proceeding, double-check your backup/snapshot, server ID and operation target.

Responsibilities

Cloud Noce provides the machine, network and infrastructure operations. Operating system patches, the firewall inside the machine, SSH, users, software, data and application backups are your responsibility.
